The House of Representatives has issued an official clarification regarding the discovery of an unidentified body near the National Assembly Complex this past Sunday.

The statement, released by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., aims to provide accurate information and prevent public speculation, following the official report from the Nigeria Police Force, which is leading the investigation.

According to the report from the Divisional Police Officer of the National Assembly Division, the body of the deceased was found inside a red Peugeot 406 car parked near the Annex Building Gate, close to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The discovery was made around 9 a.m., and the individual is believed to have been a labourer working at a construction site within the legislative complex. The body was found in a sleeping position on the back seat of the vehicle and was already in an advanced state of decomposition when located by authorities.

The police have since evacuated the remains to a mortuary, and diligent efforts are currently underway to conclusively establish the identity of the deceased and to locate and notify their next of kin.

The House of Representatives emphasised that the National Assembly Complex is collaborating closely with all relevant security and emergency agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Rep. Rotimi commended the Nigeria Police Force for their swift and professional response to the situation. He further assured the public that the House is committed to transparency and will provide updates as the investigation progresses. On behalf of the entire House of Representatives, he also extended profound sympathies to the family and associates of the deceased, once they are identified.
