The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has warned that any assault on police officers will be met with a commensurate response.
He made this statement during a one-day official visit to the Enugu Police Headquarters on Friday, where he expressed deep concern over the rising number of police officers killed by criminal elements.
IGP Egbetokun condemned the attacks on law enforcement, emphasizing that such acts would no longer be tolerated. “We are determined to ensure the safety of our officers and to respond firmly to any form of assault or killing of police personnel,” he said.
The IGP reiterated the police force’s commitment to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to dislodge criminals from the Southeast zone and vowed to prevent their return. “This year, we are more resolute than ever in our mission to wipe out crimes and criminality. We will not allow these criminal elements to regroup or carry out their dastardly acts,” he assured.
Egbetokun called for public support in the fight against crime, urging communities to work with the police in maintaining law and order.
