Nollywood actor Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IK Ogbonna, has joined the chorus of voices calling for urgent regulations to ensure safety in the Nigerian film industry.

Ogbonna emphasized the need for measures to address safety concerns, particularly regarding late-night shooting schedules and the provision of medical assistance on film sets.

In his statement, Ogbonna urged the governing body of Nollywood to mandate the inclusion of a medical department on every film set to handle emergencies effectively. He highlighted the detrimental effects of late-night shoots on the health of cast and crew members, stressing the importance of adequate rest for maintaining physical well-being.

We must urgently address the issue of safety in Nollywood,” Ogbonna asserted. “It is crucial that every movie set includes a medical department from now on. Additionally, we need to seriously consider the impact of late-night shoots, particularly on those who work tirelessly back-to-back.”

Ogbonna expressed concern over the frequent loss of celebrated Nollywood artists and crew members, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent further tragedies. He called on industry stakeholders to prioritize safety and implement regulations that would safeguard the well-being of everyone involved in film production.

The actor’s plea for safety regulations echoes similar sentiments expressed by his colleagues, including Ini Edo, who has called for a restructuring of the rules governing film shoots in Nollywood.
