Tragedy struck on Monday, April 25, in the Mafoluku area of Lagos State, as a male meat seller reportedly slumped and died while attending to a customer on Branco Street. According to an eyewitness, the incident happened around 5 pm while the deceased had just finished selling meat and was waiting for payment.

Eyewitnesses recalled that a woman called the man, a regular meat hawker in the area, to sell meat for her. After they both agreed on the price, the meat seller suddenly collapsed when the woman was about to pay him. Despite efforts by some people to resuscitate him, he remained unresponsive, and his body lay on the floor for close to 30 minutes.

Later, the residents hired a commercial bus to take the deceased to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, confirmed that the man had an underlying health issue and that they didn’t involve any foul play. He also said that they had deposited the corpse in the mortuary.

The unfortunate incident is a reminder of the need for regular health check-ups, especially in the face of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed many people’s lives globally.
