The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has joined other Nigerians in mourning the death of elder statesman and former minister, Audu Innocent Ogbeh, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday.

In a statement issued by Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, the forum described Ogbeh as a distinguished national figure and an invaluable member of its Board of Trustees, whose wisdom and guidance shaped critical deliberations.

The NEF eulogised the late statesman as a principled democrat, patriotic nationalist, and relentless advocate for peace and national cohesion. The forum noted that his integrity, insightful counsel, and unwavering commitment to the progress of Northern Nigeria and the nation at large would be deeply missed.

Ogbeh, a multifaceted personality, was a farmer, politician, playwright, and intellectual who served Nigeria in various capacities. He held key ministerial positions, including Minister of Communications (1982–1983) and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (2015–2019), where he contributed significantly to national development.

The forum emphasised that his demise was not only a personal loss to its membership but also a profound loss to the entire country. Audu Ogbeh’s legacy as a unifying figure and his dedication to nation-building remain enduring testaments to his impactful life.

The NEF extended its condolences to the Ogbeh family, the people of Benue State, and all Nigerians, urging them to take solace in his exemplary life of service. The forum pledged to honour his memory by upholding the values of unity, integrity, and progressive leadership that he championed throughout his lifetime.
