Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has submitted a supplementary budget proposal of N22 billion to the Kogi State House of Assembly for approval.
The proposed budget, which is intended to complement the already approved 2024 appropriation law, was formally presented to the lawmakers on Tuesday in Lokoja.
The supplementary budget is aimed at addressing additional financial needs that were not captured in the initial budget.
According to government sources, the extra funds are to be used for urgent infrastructure projects, salary obligations, and other pressing developmental initiatives that have arisen since the original budget was passed.
Governor Ododo’s request was read on the floor of the Assembly by the Speaker, Aliyu Umar Yusuf, who acknowledged the receipt of the document and assured that the House would give it the attention it deserves.
He noted that the lawmakers understand the importance of responding to emerging needs within the state and are committed to supporting initiatives that will enhance the welfare of the people.
The proposed supplementary budget is coming just four months into the fiscal year and is seen by observers as a move by the Ododo administration to quickly respond to the state’s evolving financial demands.
Some analysts view it as a proactive step to ensure that the government continues to meet its responsibilities, especially in the face of fluctuating revenue and economic challenges.
The House of Assembly is expected to deliberate on the proposed supplementary budget in the coming days, after which a decision will be made on whether to approve the additional funding.
