Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has secured a spot in the final 10-man shortlist for the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year. CAF recently narrowed down the initial 30 contenders, revealing the top players vying for the prestigious award on its official platform.
Among the prominent names on the list are Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, Yassine Bounou, and Yousef En-Nesyri. Osimhen’s remarkable contributions to Napoli’s success in the 2022/23 season, where he scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances, make him a frontrunner for the award.
Despite facing a hamstring injury, the 24-year-old striker has continued to shine, netting six goals in 10 appearances across all competitions this season. The CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 11.
While Osimhen stands out as a strong contender, his compatriot Gift Orban did not make the final shortlist for the Young Player of the Year. Football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the announcement of the winner in what promises to be a competitive showdown among Africa’s football elite.
