The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced plans to decentralise the police recruitment exercise, granting state-level recruitment desk officers greater involvement in the 2025 recruitment process.
This decision follows a consultative meeting held on Thursday with representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the new approach aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and fairness in police recruitment.
The PSC will deploy a newly developed recruitment portal, accessible to key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Character Commission. This system is designed to prevent corruption, nepotism, and other irregularities in the recruitment process.
The statement emphasised that the portal will be used for recruiting both PSC staff and police personnel, ensuring a standardised and efficient procedure. State officers will play a significant role in the process, marking a shift from previous centralised methods.
The PSC also assured the public that the portal will be activated once preparations for the 2025 recruitment exercise are finalised.
The commission reiterated its commitment to building a police force that meets national expectations, stressing that the new measures will promote equity and public trust in the recruitment system.
This development comes as part of ongoing reforms to improve policing standards and institutional integrity in Nigeria.
