The Presidency stated on Saturday that N60 million had been given to 120 youths selected from around the country.
Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (SSAP-TVEE), made the announcement in Abuja at the presentation of funds, Solar Kiosks, and Certificates of Completion to meritorious participants in the ‘Unlock Training Programme’.
She stated that the programme was the result of a six-week campaign launched by the Presidency in which Nigerian youths were asked to record and submit a one-minute video about their current TVET skills, their future plans for such skills, and how they wanted the government to help them achieve their goals.
Arogundade stated that both online and in-person participants were instructed on the components of a solid business plan, such as the executive summary, business overview and marketing strategy, pricing, money management, and hazards.
The presidential adviser also stated that at the end of the campaign, around 10,000 participants were taught in a 10-day intensive training course on how to design and implement business strategies.
She said:
“After the course, participants were asked to write and submit business plans. Today, we are giving out N500,000 grants each to 120 winners with the best Business Plans.
“We are also giving out honourary awards to 80 persons seen to be doing very well in their Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship skills but need support to upscale their businesses.
“As you must have seen on your way in, there are four Solar Kiosks to be given away to winners to support the business development of their TVET skills. They include one designed for hair dressing, one designed for catering and food vending and the other two for general purposes.”
