On Tuesday, the Kwara State House of Assembly emphasized the need to include agricultural science in the basic and secondary school curricula.
Ganiyu Folabi Salau of Omupo constituency raised the motion on the floor of the house, arguing that agricultural science should be made obligatory from the primary to the secondary school level.
Salau, who led the argument, stated that agricultural education will benefit students physically and psychologically while also helping to support the economy, foster educated decision-making, and widen employment prospects.
In a resolution on the motion, the House asked the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development and the Universal Basic Education Board to include agricultural science in the state’s basic education curriculum.
The House praised Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrasaq for his innovative leadership in improving Kwara State’s food security by supplying tractors to grassroots farmers through local councils and maintaining an all-year farming agenda consistent with the state’s agricultural transformation.
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has discussed the need to encourage dry-season farming in order to improve the state’s food security situation.
