Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has made sweeping declarations about the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as fundamentally deceased and under the control of agents from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye, who is now a key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made these remarks during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Monday evening.
In his characteristic dramatic style, Melaye stated that the PDP is not only dead but also buried, asserting that no one apart from Jesus Christ has ever risen from the dead.
He claimed that the opposition party had been effectively sold out and is now being manipulated by forces loyal to the APC from the Presidential Villa.
According to him, the current activities within the PDP are merely a makeshift facade, controlled by agents of the ruling party to ensure there is no viable opposition.
Melaye reinforced his argument by referencing a recent comment from Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, a prominent PDP figure, who had called for the party to first establish itself properly.
Melaye interpreted this as a clear admission that the PDP, in its current form, does not functionally exist as a coherent political entity. He used the opportunity to promote his new party, the ADC, expressing strong confidence that it is the party that will unseat President Bola Tinubu and remove him from the Villa after the 2027 presidential election. His comments reflect the deep internal crises and defections that have plagued the main opposition party in recent years.
