The Special Military Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, has detained 13 people in Plateau and in other areas of Kaduna and Bauchi states, in connection with abduction, banditry, cattle rustling, and other criminal acts.

Capt. James Oya, the OPSH’s media officer, stated in a statement on Tuesday in Jos that the forces also found 279 cows in addition to weapons and ammunition.

Oya added that the breakthrough was made during an operation undertaken by OPSH between October 2 and October 9, and that the suspects were apprehended in certain localities within its jurisdiction.

He stated:

“Between October 2 and October 9, our troops arrested 13 criminal suspects in connection with kidnapping, prison break, peddling illicit drugs and rustling.

“We also recovered illegal arms and ammunition.

“Troops recovered a total of 279 cows and six sheep over destruction of crops on farmlands across Bokkos, Mangu, Riyom and Zango Kataf Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau and Kaduna states, respectively.”

According to the media officer, during the review period, its forces also prevented plans by gunmen to assault Washina and Razak villages in Plateau’s Mangu and Barkin Ladi LGAs.

Oya asked the locals to support the community’s efforts to reduce crime and criminality while also urging them to always uphold the law.

He also gave the locals assurance that OPSH will continue to treat everyone fairly and justly, reiterating that its responsibility is to protect the lives and property of law-abiding individuals.
