The governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Karim town and its surroundings in the state’s Karim Lamido Local Government Area on Sunday. On Saturday, authorities imposed a curfew in response to fresh communal fighting between the Wurkuns and the Karimjos in the LGA. Reports indicate the violence led to at least 50 fatalities and several home fires.
Usman Abdullahi, the spokesman for the Taraba State Police Command, stated that the situation began at around 3 a.m. on Saturday and that the precise number of casualties was yet unknown.
“In the last few days, there have been pockets of guerilla attacks in some communities in the area where the Karimjos attack the Wurkuns, and the Wurkuns also attack in return, or the Wurkuns attack the Karimjos, and they also attack in return”, Abdullahi added.
The governor also ordered security agencies to enforce the curfew imposed on the LGA strictly.
