The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has administered the oath of office to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect. The swearing-in ceremony in the capital, Abuja, attracted dignitaries from across the continent, highlighting the importance of the occasion. Despite significant economic and security difficulties, 71-year-old Bola Tinubu won the election, held in February, by promising to restore optimism. He replaces two-term President Muhammadu Buhari amidst inflation, record debt levels, and increased kidnapping for ransom.
His two closest challengers are contesting Mr. Tinubu’s win in court.
They assert that the result was rigged.
