The Yobe State House of Assembly approved a harmonised budget of N71,167,000,000.00 for 2024 local government districts, which would cover both recurring and capital expenses.
The House voted the budget into law after considering the reports of its joint standing committees on local governments and chieftaincy matters, as well as finance and appropriation, on the harmonised budget for 2024 local government areas.
Speaking shortly after the budget was passed, Hon. Mohammed Ali, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the 2024 local governments harmonised budget allocated a total of N28,642,000,000.00 to recurrent expenditure and over N42,524,000,000.00 for capital services.
Ali stated that the unified budget will be used in water supply, health, and agriculture to provide work opportunities for the state’s teeming youngsters throughout its 17 local government districts.
The chairman of the committee, who spoke about the importance of revenue creation, emphasised the necessity for the ministry of local governments and chieftaincy affairs to develop a uniform revenue collecting process to enable appropriate revenue generation and repatriation at the local government level.
He urged local government caretaker management committees to follow due procedure when implementing the 2024 harmonised budget to guarantee financial transactions are transparent and accountable.
Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, Speaker of the House, presided over the meeting and praised the members for their efforts to the budget’s swift passage.
