Over 40 people have allegedly been kidnapped from towns in Maru Local Government Area by bandits terrorizing Zamfara State after multiple raids over the last two weeks.
Alhaji Umar Abdullahi, a Maru town resident, told reporters over the phone on Thursday that many people in the local government area are extremely concerned about the current state of affairs.
He says that the bandits have been raiding Maru local government headquarters and the villages around them, kidnapping people from their houses in the process.
According to him:
“Just last week, the bandits stormed our town and conducted house-to-house searches, starting from the Emir’s palace area, and kidnapped seven persons.”
Abdullahi blamed the actions of informants working with the local bandits for the regular attacks on Maru settlements.
“Our major challenge is the bandits’ informants, as most of the kidnapped victims are prominent persons in the area.
“As I am talking to you now, there are over 40 kidnapped victims in bandit camps following simultaneous attacks on Maru communities over the past two weeks,” he lamented.
