Nigerian troops arrested a lady who was in possession of munitions that was about to be sent to a terrorist stronghold in Zamfara State.
The woman, Shamsiyya, was arrested at a checkpoint as she tried to deliver the gift from Hanka to its destination.
As she was being questioned, Shamsiyya admitted that she had no idea what was in the gift that she had been told to deliver.
“A man I did not know gave me the ammunition,” she said, referring to the man as a Hausa person. Also, she admitted that she was not aware that the box included hazardous items.
“I didn’t know what was inside the package, but I know the ammunition can kill someone,” she said.
Shamsiyya said that she had received transportation costs for the package but had not been told of the contents. She also voiced anxiety for her two children, stating that she did not want anything bad to happen to them.
Shamsiyya’s arrest comes amid continuous efforts by Nigerian troops to tackle terrorism and criminal activity in the region.
The Nigerian troops are continuing to boost efforts to counter insurgency activity in the northeast, notably in Zamfara, where armed group assaults have increased in recent months.
