Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, condemned the anti-Igbo slogan, stating there is no place for ethnic intolerance in the state.
Hamzat stated this while appearing on Arise TV’s ‘The Morning Show’, stating that the Lagos State administration has been engaging young from all sectors to get them interested in how things are done and governed in the country.
He also stated that the state government will continue to engage, connect, and communicate with the young, thinking that this would allow them to work and partner with the government to achieve the intended goals and programs.
The Deputy Governor condemned the statement made by “Lagospedia” on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the hashtag #Igbomustgo#, saying there is no tolerance for ethnic discrimination in Lagos State.
He went on to say that such a statement has no place in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s policy orientation, saying that Lagos is a city where people from many tribes cohabit peacefully, and the government would not allow faceless persons to separate them.
According to him, while certain people are attempting to split the state, the administration would never allow it to happen.
Hamzat said:
“These faceless people just came up and said the Igbo must leave, this is absolute nonsense; which is why the Governor immediately denounced it. Lagos is accommodating and that is who we are.
“Even when we were young, we’ve all lived together peacefully and there is no need for people to become ethnic bigots.”
