Nigeria’s under-18 Women’s Handball Team defeated Angola 28-24 in the third-place match of the current Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship on Saturday in Monastir, Tunisia.
Nigeria rebounded from an 18-32 semi-final loss to Egypt on Friday, According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
In the first match, they fought hard and won 12-7 against the Angolan girls.
They maintained their winning mentality in the second half, defeating the Angolans 28-24.
Shittu Agboola, Coach of the Nigerian squad, afterwards stated that his team performed admirably.
He stated:
“We wanted to play the final instead of the third place; unfortunately we lost the semi final against Egypt yesterday.
“The most important thing which was a success to us is that we have qualified for the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship.”
Egypt regained their championship title in the final match, handily defeating Guinea 29-16 to be the winner of 2023 Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship.
The competition, the 19th Africa Women Championship, which began on September 16, has completed.
