The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that the 2027 general election will serve as a national referendum on what it describes as the failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accused the ruling party of mismanaging the country’s economy and worsening the security situation.
According to Ologunagba, Nigeria has seen a troubling rise in insecurity, with over 600 citizens reportedly killed in the past two years. He blamed this on what he called the APC administration’s poor leadership and inability to provide security across the country. He argued that rather than offer solutions, the government has relied on excuses and propaganda.
He also criticized the APC’s approach to economic policy, particularly the \$24.5 billion loan request made to address the consequences of fuel subsidy removal. Ologunagba questioned what impact the loan has had on the lives of ordinary Nigerians and challenged the APC to explain how the funds have been used.
The PDP spokesperson further accused the ruling party of attempting to weaken the country’s democracy by pushing toward a one-party state. He said that such actions threaten the political balance and democratic structure of the nation.
Ologunagba reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and accountability. He stated that the opposition party remains focused on offering Nigerians a better alternative and a pathway out of the current national challenges. As the 2027 elections approach, the PDP plans to engage with Nigerians to present a clear and compelling vision for change.
