Turkey Earthquake Death Toll Crosses 22,000.

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Friday confirmed the death toll in Turkey to have risen to 18,991, while the Syrian Civil Defence said that at least 2,037 persons have lost their lives as a result of the earthquake in opposition-held areas. In government-controlled areas, 1,340 people have died according to government officials’ reports.

On the 6th of February, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck overnight near Nurdagi, Turkey.

Amidst the devastating loss, there have been a number of miraculous survivors, coming out under the rubble after hours. Al Jazeera reporter, Stafenie Denker reporting from the Turkish city of Gaziantep said it is difficult to capture the scale of the damage. In some cases, entire families have been lost. Reports across various media channels have shown people trooping in from unaffected provinces rushing to provide aid and rescue assistance.
