Our ears are very important to our lives so caring for them should be a priority. Without them, we are almost completely closed out from the rest of the world. They are responsible for sending sound and balanced information to your brain so it is important that you keep them clean and healthy. Here are a few tips that can help keep the ear healthy.

Avoid Noise

When using personal sound systems, the volume should be at a comfortable level. If someone else can hear what you’re listening to with earbuds, the volume is too high. When you’re at places where the noise is too loud like concerts, motor sporting events, or nightclubs, try to wear earplugs. If you do find yourself in a situation where you are exposed to loud noises for a long period of time, make sure to give your ears a break and a chance to recover before engaging in additional loud activities.

Do not Poke objects into your Ears

Inserting buds or tissues in the ear can also damage your ear canal and eardrum. If your hearing is affected by ear wax see a healthcare provider to have it removed, don’t try to remove it on your own. Likewise, If you experience itching or pain in your ears.  If you have pierced ears, specialists advise you to clean your earrings and earlobes regularly with rubbing alcohol.

Keep Your Ears Dry

If you don’t dry your ears properly after washing or swimming, excess moisture can cause bacterial build-up, compromising the ear canal. If you sense water residue, drain your ear by tilting your head to one side. Also, ensure you towel dry gently after any bathing or swimming.

Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise like walking, running or cycling keeps the blood pumping – including to the ears – helping their internal workings stay healthy and in good working order.

Do not Hesitate to Have Your Ear Checked

See an ear doctor immediately if you injure your ears, experience ear pain, or notice any changes in your ears or hearing. This is a major aspect of caring for your ears. Don’t just sit still and expect that ringing sound to go away or the pain to disappear, see an otolaryngologist.
