I’m sure you’ve heard a thousand times that excess beer consumption is not good for the body. But have you also heard that moderate amounts of alcohol may have health benefits? If so, you may be wondering if moderate consumption of beer could also be good for your health.

Beer contains a variety of B vitamins and minerals because it’s made from cereal grains and yeast. Also, it contains small amounts of potassium, calcium, thiamine, iron, and zinc. So beer is not a useless liquid people just drink to get drunk. There are actually some nutrients in there somewhere.

Some Health Benefits

Researchers found that two glasses of beer a day can reduce work-related stress or anxiety. Light to moderate beer intake may be associated with a lower risk of heart disease, improved blood sugar control, stronger bones, and reduced dementia risk. However, heavy drinking can counter these benefits and has the opposite effects. Even though drinking may offer some benefits, you can achieve the same positive effects by enjoying a varied nutrient-rich diet of whole foods like fruits and vegetables.

Downsides In Spite of the Benefits
Addiction

Consuming alcohol in moderation is good. But when a person gets used to it, and cannot seem to survive without it then there is a problem.  Therefore, it could be safer to avoid it totally, so that you don’t get addicted to it. It can lead to poverty. Many have become addicted to the extent that they spend all their money drinking and have no money for more important things.

Inhibits Senses

After a bottle of beer or two, a person may get drunk and do things he wouldn’t have done were his senses intact. This can lead a person to drive and get into an accident. It can cause a person to fall and sustain injuries. Also, it can lead to low productivity at work. It can lead to domestic violence and destroy a person’s marriage.

It is also important to remember that drinking beer exposes us to pubs and bars where there are people who drink and smoke. Over time, we might be influenced to smoke and abuse drugs as well, which is detrimental to our health.
